Kay led a life of learning after graduation from St. Mary High School, Mercy School of Nursing, and the University of North Texas at Denton. Her nursing career followed various tracks as she worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and Mercy hospitals in Michigan, followed by Baylor University Medical Center and Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She also served in the US Air Force attaining the rank of captain. She worked in education for more than 38 years: home schooling her son and other students in elementary education; followed by many years at Lakewood Presbyterian School where her focus was on the Sciences.
Kay loved our school, she treasured her years teaching the sciences to the children of Lakewood, as well as volunteering with the yearbook and on occasion Drama. This included a run as Queen Victoria in the Pirates of Penzance.
In honor of Mrs. O’Keefe’s long service to Lakewood Presbyterian School, we are setting up the Kay O’Keefe Scholarship Fund (KOKSF).
The KOKSF directly assists families in need of financial help. Please consider donating using the link below, and select “Kay O’Keefe Scholarship Fund” from the dropdown link.
